EMPACT - 1st & 2nd Collaborative Interdisciplinary Artistic Projects

Espacio Rojo | 12 January 2024 Madrid, Spain

We are pleased to announce this seminar/workshop in the framework of the innovative project EMPACT – Empathy and Sustainability: The Art of Thinking like a Mountain, co-funded by the EU Creative Europe Programme (Grant Agreement No: 101055903 – EMPACT – CREA-CULT-2021-COOP-2)

The collaborative dialogue among artists and experts is organized by Espacio Rojo.

The collaborative dialogues in the Empact project explore the connection between art and various disciplines such as philosophy, society, science and the environment.

Two pairs of artists have collaborated with experts from other fields to present innovative projects.

SHARED KOSMOGONIES
Deneb Martos (visual artist) and Miguel Alfonso Bouhaben (philosopher)

«Shared Kosmogonies» is an invitation to a dialogue of diverse knowledges; a mestizo intersection between painting, cinema, science, and philosophy. The interdisciplinary project focuses on the work and materiality in the work of Deneb Martos, which deals with the practice of film without a camera and acoustic improvisation, performance, painting and photography, based on poetics and memory. The dialogue brings together different points of view on the genesis of the constellations and galaxies that constitute us; of the words, ideas, images and affections that furrow our acts of creation.

WINGS TO BELIEVE AND CREATE
Begoña Rius (multidisciplinar artist) and Enrique Rius (life sciences expert)

A  multi-artistic and social project on the Montagu’s harrier, which inhabits steppes on two continents. An approach to the rain-fed agricultural ecosystems that offer shelter to these and other birds. The research therefore represents a call to conserve their rich biodiversity by protecting them from threats. The collaboration also relates the social aspect, the journey of this migratory bird with that made by the sub-Saharan migrant coming from the same lands and with the same route. It aims to improve knowledge about the meaning and significance of a migrant’s journey with the protection of the natural and human environment they inhabit. An empathetic contribution that addresses ecological and social aspects, framed within the objectives of the activities of our Empact project. The proposal develops designs, in different techniques and methods, graphic and visual media, sculptures and scientific sheets.

The event is organized by the Asociación Espacio Rojo, an EMPACT consortium partner, and will be held in Spanish (with visual material in English) languages.

EMPACT is led by the Cyprus University of Technology and scientifically coordinated by Assistant Professors Efi Kyprianidou and Yannis Christidis (Department of Fine Arts).

The above measures will be implemented with the collaboration of nine European partners (University of Technology (Cyprus), Fondazione Lamberto Puggelli (Italy), Espacio Rojo (Spain), National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) “Kr. Sarafov” (Bulgaria), Nature, Art & Habitat (NAHR)  (Italy), Umetnostna Galerija Maribor (Slovenia), and Vorres Museum (Greece)) offering diverse experiences and know-how, which represent a broad, balanced, and targeted geographical area.

Join EMPACT social media and keep updated about empathy and sustainability through the arts: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
