Agios Ioannis Pitsilias 10:00-18:00

We are pleased to announce the 3-day socially engaged art intervention “The Future is Already Present” in the framework of the innovative project “EMPACT – Empathy and Sustainability: The Art of Thinking like a Mountain”, co-funded by the EU Creative Europe Programme (Grant Agreement No: 101055903 – EMPACT – CREA-CULT-2021-COOP-2), coordinated by Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the Asst. Professors Efi Kyprianidou and Yiannis Christidis.

The artistic project is organized by CUT in collaboration with the community of Agios Ioannis Pitsilias and will be held in Greek language.

The Socially Engaged Art Intervention “The Future is already Present” is an artistic project by the renowned artists, Anna Lytridou and Benjamin Deakin and it will take place in the CUT Fine Arts international Research Center in Agios Ioannis Pitsilias. The project aims to engage local community and student participants by asking them to repurpose and re-contextualise the scrap metal and fabrics that they contribute to the project. Using the installation pieces as inspiration, the artist will work with them to combine their items into communally created “framing devices”.

Anna Lytridou’s outdoor installation works combine the aesthetics of painting with the accessibility and approachability of public sculpture. Instead of the prescriptive relationship between viewer and art object in a gallery her works are intended to invite viewers to walk around and between her pieces, finding their own viewpoint and personal engagement with the work. In a landscape context the pieces therefore function as “framing devices”, again disrupting the conventional relationship between the art object and the environment.
